Escalation and Inflation – Handle with Care

Lions, tigers, and bears have nothing on inflation, escalation, and real price changes – oh my!!! Is your cost model set up adequately to identify and handle all the components of escalation correctly?  Dealing clearly and appropriately with inflation and escalation in your estimates is imperative.  The ACEIT team has spent the last two years working with DoD and other federal clients to understand their needs in dealing with escalation throughout the estimating process and to incorporate DoD-approved escalation terminology into ACEIT 8.2.  Join us to understand the key concepts in working with the most recent escalation guidance.

- Utilizing escalation terminology outlined in the OSD CAPE Inflation and Escalation Best Practices for Cost Analysis Analyst Handbook (Dec 2021) and proper usage of cost types throughout the estimating process.
- Transitioning older cost models to current escalation terminology and applications.   ACEIT 8.2 has automated the transition process and documents all the updates/changes to the model when the ACE session is opened.
- Properly identifying and labeling indices selection and usage clearly for reviewers and model acceptance. ACEIT has expanded capabilities in the suite to better distinguish between inflation and escalation.
- Entering and handling new cost data types in your model. ACEIT includes the new Constant Year cost types for obligations and expenditures.
- Escalation handling for reports. Converting easily between cost types for reporting on the fly.

Escalation issues properly conquered in our models… then this is a day of independence for all the Munchkins and their descendants!
